What have you heard?
15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. [Luke 2:15-18 ESV]
It’s interesting to consider who the God of the universe deemed to be the greatest influencers on earth when He wanted to leak the news that His Son had been born. The Greatest News of all time was spread by people few wanted to be near. Sheep were smelly, pastures were dusty and disgusting, migrating workers were a little lower on the societal ladder.
The Greatest News of all time was spread by people few wanted to be near.
Why did God choose shepherds?
•Was it because they were available?
•Could it be that they would actually believe a fantastic announcement that was hundreds of years in the making?
•Did they consider it an honor to be the first to tell when others might would have dismissed the reality of this news?
•Were they humble enough to carry the News without taking the credit or stealing its thunder?
You may feel like you’re the shepherd, out to pasture, unnoticed, overshadowed in darkness, laboring in vain. But there’s a Message for you to carry to an individual or a group of people who will listen in your world.
What have you heard? What have you seen? What did God say? Get excited and start sharing. Don’t worry about the platform, the followers’ count, or the others sharing their own account. Share what you’ve heard. You’re divinely appointed for the task.
